Wardside House Named No. 1 Care Home in Scotland by The Sunday Times

Residents at Wardside House in Muthill, near Crieff, have long described the home as a place of warmth, kindness and compassion — and now that spirit has been officially recognised.

In The Sunday Times’ 2025 Care Home League Table, Wardside House was named the best care home in Scotland, topping a national list compiled from Care Inspectorate ratings across five key areas: wellbeing, leadership, staff and support, care quality, and setting.

Excellence Recognised Nationwide

Inspectors awarded Wardside House “Excellent” grades for wellbeing, leadership, staff and support, and “Very Good”for its tranquil setting — the highest combination achieved by any Scottish home this year.
According to The Sunday Times, the findings reveal “a sharp disparity in standards, even in care homes only a few miles apart.” Yet Wardside House stood out for its consistent quality and the humanity shown by its team.

Inspectors noted:

“Staff told us that they had sufficient time to support people according to their needs. We witnessed positive relationships, humour, fun and friendly interactions.”

A Culture of Warmth, Kindness and Compassion

At the heart of Wardside House’s success is a simple philosophy: care should feel like family.
Residents are supported not only with professional expertise but also with genuine warmth — from thoughtful daily routines to shared laughter and meaningful activities that bring people together.

The Care Inspectorate praised this approach for promoting wellbeing and independence while ensuring every resident feels respected and valued.

A Benchmark for Quality Care in Scotland

While some areas of the country continue to struggle with variable standards, The Sunday Times highlighted Perth and Kinross as home to one of the country’s most outstanding facilities.

Wardside House’s achievement sets a benchmark for compassionate care, showing that excellence comes from committed leadership and a dedicated team who truly understand what “care” means.

Proud to Be Scotland’s No 1 Care Home

This recognition is a reflection of everyone who contributes to life at Wardside House — from carers and nurses to chefs, activities coordinators and volunteers.
Together, they create a home where people can live comfortably, confidently and with dignity.

“Being recognised as the best care home in Scotland is an honour,” said the Wardside House team.
“But the real reward is seeing our residents happy, safe and thriving every day.”
