How We Work with Local GPs and Healthcare Services
At Wardside House, we understand that when families choose a care home, one of the biggest concerns is whether their loved one’s health will be properly monitored and managed. That’s why we place such a strong emphasis on working closely with local GPs, nurses, and healthcare professionals. We’ve built trusted relationships with healthcare providers across the area to ensure that every resident receives attentive, personalised and coordinated care.
Our approach is based on partnership. We don’t see ourselves as separate from the wider healthcare system—we work alongside it. Local GPs regularly visit Wardside House to review residents, provide consultations, and ensure medications and treatments are up to date. These visits are scheduled routinely, but we also have the flexibility to arrange additional appointments quickly if concerns arise.
Our team maintains close communication with GP practices, district nurses, and other specialists such as physiotherapists, dietitians and podiatrists. This coordinated care means that residents don’t experience delays or confusion when their needs change. We hold regular internal reviews of care plans, and when needed, these are shared with external professionals to keep everyone aligned.
Residents also benefit from input by community nurses who support with wound care, long-term conditions and palliative care. These professionals work hand-in-hand with our own care team, offering expert advice and hands-on care when needed. We also work with the local pharmacy to manage and review medications, ensuring that prescriptions are safe, effective and regularly checked.
For families, this joined-up approach brings reassurance. You know that your loved one’s health is not only being looked after daily by our compassionate staff, but also closely overseen by medical professionals who know them and respond quickly to any concerns. It helps avoid hospital admissions when possible, supports quicker recovery from illness, and provides comfort during more difficult periods.
Good healthcare in a care home is not just about responding to illness—it’s about preventing problems, spotting small changes early, and working together to support overall wellbeing. At Wardside House, we’re proud of our proactive, professional and deeply caring approach to health. Our residents deserve nothing less.
Best wishes,
The Wardside House Team
